A trip to Saskatoon Steaks, Fish & Wild Game (Saskatoon Lodge)

Elk Loin
There's plenty of room for all God's creatures... Right next to the mashed potatoes.

And let me tell you, those garlic mashed potatoes really do compliment the meats.

If you haven't been introduced to Saskatoon Steaks, Fish & Wild Game, or known as Saskatoon Lodge, it's my pleasure to do so with this story and photos of a great meal.

In the fall of 2017, owners Edmund and Renee Woo realized their dream of moving their famous wild game and steak restaurant to its new, sprawling location. Saskatoon Lodge now sits on nine lush acres that inhabit the main restaurant and a one-of-a-kind rustic event space.
The menu features Greenville’s only wild game, which is what Saskatoon is famous for. So when you’re at The Lodge for a family gathering, dinner for two or an event for two hundred, you and your guests can be as adventurous as you want, with delectable presentations of kangaroo, elk, buffalo, antelope, alligator and ostrich. For those who prefer the simple things, we also serve equally delicious and award-winning selections of beef, pork and duck and seafood. And we’d be remiss if we failed to mention that our incredible desserts would give Grandma a run for her money. Yes, even yours.

Being new to Greenville, and a seasoned culinary insider, I was looking for something exquisite and unique. I found both here. Edmund and Renee Woo really have a dining treasure to be discovered by the masses. Their attention to detail and seasonal menu changes keep this eatery fresh and inviting.

Speaking of fresh, let's add flavorful to the mix. And yes, we're going to dive right into the tastes of wild game on the menu. My wife and I have had quite a bite. And, a first-time try for most of it.

Huntsman Platter - Red Stag Venison Chop, Kangaroo Strip Loin and Ostrich Filet

The Huntsman Platter is hands-down a win-win-win when you want to spoil yourself! The dish consists of a Red Stag Venison Chop, Kangaroo Strip Loin and an Ostrich Filet. Preferably a medium rare, my wife ordered it close to rare. The temp was perfect and the tastes were stupid good. And, if you're questioning this, let me just say I was there with you at one time. Then, I took the training wheels off. You'll love this. It's cooked and seasoned in a way you'll notice a difference, but it won't put you off. Rather, it'll have you screaming for more. May I say, the dish was succulent.

Blackened Barramundi with a Chili Lime Aioli Sauce

You crave fish? Well, they have that on lock down. Take this Fresh from the Stream offering. It's a Blackened Barramundi (Asian Sea Bass) with a Chili Lime Aioli Sauce, served with a hot baked potato and veggie melody. The fish had a clean, buttery flavor. This dish sang to our taste buds and put them into a flavorful comfort zone. Beautifully cut and cooked to perfection.

Elk Loin, cooked medium rare

OK, so you got to see the Elk Loin, but here's the cut-into photo showing the superb medium-rare cook on the meat. Oh, and juices were just oozing out. I had potato wedges paired with my meat along with a veggie melody. So tender, you really didn't need a knife to slice into it. And, if you think this is a small portion, you must come try it for yourself. I cam with an empty stomach and was full 3/4 in. It's a plentiful dish, I assure you.

Let's talk dessert. Why? Because even with their glorious entrees, you have to try their divine sweet treats. The Chocolate Moose Pie (with a brownie crust) and Baileys Chocolate Chip Cheesecake were outstanding. It's what you'd expect after a great meal: Sweet flavors producing a mouthful of delightfully rich fireworks.

Plan a culinary adventure to this awesome restaurant and indulge yourself with an epic meal! Be a culinary encourager and go to your nom-nom place!
