A visit to Boondocks Fish Camp & BBQ

You'll definitely want to sink your teeth into this food!

Guess where I ended up today? Yup, it was Boondocks Fish Camp & BBQ located in Gray Court, South Carolina. Have you heard of it? No?

Christian and Christine Perry were the owners of Wagon Wheel Fish Camp in Cowpens, South Carolina, for more than 20 years until they lost the building due to a fire last Spring.

In September 2022, the renowned chefs decided to open this restaurant in a building that sat dormant for a year at 1955 Trinity Church Rd.

And imma going to tell ya, folks... you best get out here. The beautiful views and quaint atmosphere match the cuisine. The food here is impeccible.

The seafood is the closest we've found yet to where we used to live on the South Carolina coast. The flavors are legit and urge you to keep going bite after bite.

I loved the pork hash over grits. The ribs were rich and succulent. The Calabash Chicken was divine.

You'll love their homemade sauces. Carolina Gold, Sweet Red and Sweet Heat are desirable, but you must hit up the Sweet Heat first. Dip your shrimp in it. Dip your fish in it. Dip your que in it. It doesn't matter what you dip in it!

But, the Firecracker Shrimp special tonight was just lights out. I knew when I saw shrimp cooked perfectly inside a wonton wrapper, I was in for a culinary ride.

The Strawberry Cake was just too legit to quit. Hey, Chef Jason Smith - Lord Honey, you need to visit!

In a 2017 interview, Christian replied to one question with "follow your heart" and it seems he did just that.

The Perrys and their passion did not go up in smoke when their restaurant burned. It traveled a good distance to land in a place where people could taste their passion on a plate and keep coming back for more.

I am forever grateful for tonight's dinner and getting the chance to meet them.

Now you have to #gotoyournomnomplace!

Be a #culinaryencourager and support these folks and many others who don't let their passion of serving great food go up in flames.
