Greenville Technical College showcases culinary arts, hospitality with exceptional institute

The Culinary Institute of the Carolinas at Greenville Technical College provides students with basic food knowledge and culinary techniques for classical and current trends. All courses are built from a foundation of competencies required for American Culinary Federation Education Foundation Accrediting Commission (ACFEFAC) accreditation, which means our program stays current with industry expectations.

Greenville Technical College's Truist Culinary and Hospitality Innovation Center (CHI) is now open, bringing a unique training facility for workforce development to West Greenville.

Let's take a tour...

The Truist Culinary & Hospitality Innovation Center (CHI) is a neighborhood-based venue delivering recreational classes for home cooks, corporate team-building, and job training in the heart of the community.

Designed to bring inclusive economic mobility and workforce development to West Greenville, our innovative facilities are the result of more than $2.7 million in investments spearheaded by Ann Wright at the Greenville Tech Foundation and The Furman Co.

One of the chef instructors is a good friend of mine, Chef Bill Twaler.

Master of Science in Education from the University of Kansas Bachelor of Science in Food Service Management and Associate Degree in Culinary Arts from Johnson and Wales University.

Before joining CHI, Chef Twaler was a Professor of Culinary Arts at the International Culinary Institute of Myrtle Beach, the Culinary Arts/ProStart teacher at Wando High School and the executive chef and owner of Old Firehouse Restaurant in Hollywood, SC. Chef Twaler is an American Culinary Federation (ACF) Certified Executive Chef, was an apprentice on the Culinary Team USA in the 1996 Berlin Culinary Olympics, and was a safari chef at Hammond Ranch in Zimbabwe in 1998. Chef Twaler’s professional accomplishments include the following:

  • 2016 National Educator of Excellence Award

  • 2016 SC Hospitality Educator of the Year

  • ProStart State Management Championships in 2014, 2015 and 2016
