Since 2018, Allen Smith has been providing outstanding food to people who've sought juicy BBQ and familiar sides, like mac & cheese, green beans, cole slaw and collard greens.
Those years of catering provided enough data to let Smith know he needed a brick-and-mortar joint to satisfy the ever-growing population who have had his food and those who heard of his offerings.
So, on May 28, 2022, we were invited to Smith's soft opening for Smitty's Smokin' Soulfood, located at 5284 Suite E on Calhoun Memorial Hwy in Easley, S.C.
When first walking in you're hit with family photos on the walk! It sets the tone, telling you family is important and that you, as a customer, are welcomed as family, too.
The ambiance is perfect. Colors are fitting and relaxing. Truly a home-felt atmosphere.
And below is a photo of the menu, written on the wall. It is subject to change, but gives you a first-hand look and what's offered.
Now, let's talk about the food.
The smoked brisket was so juicy. Very flavorful. Watching Smith and his team handle them was like watching nurses handle new-born babies. Very delicate and with much care.
The pulled pork BBQ sandwich was awesome. Smoked pork was tender. Their sauce was on the side, so you could add as needed. I bit into the sandwich without sauce so I could taste the flavors of the meat and it was truly a heavenly bite indeed. Their sauce just added fireworks to already superb meat.
The sides were also fabulous. My favs were the sweet potato crunch and collard greens. We also loved the peach cobbler. Very fresh and sweet, but not overly sweet. It really did exemplify how grandma would of made it.
