The 05: Greenville's 'hidden gem' packs flavorful punch in comfy location

If your cruising down the 3000 side of Augusta Street in Greenville, South Carolina, you'll most likely drive right by it. Or, if your getting gasoline at the gas station near it, you might wonder what it is.

Regardless, it's a quaint and cozy eatery dubbed a "hidden gem" by Gino Iozzino and Anmar Natherr.

It's The 05 and it's damn good!

Originally slinging out out food in a food truck, The 05 now has their brick-and-mortar location at 3016 Augusta Street and an express kitchen in Gather GVL. Both see large crowds during the day, savoring each bite of the unique and flavorful dishes being created by Jennifer Barone, head chef at the restaurant.

Let's dive deeper into their story.

Come grab a drink and a bite at your favorite neighborhood gathering place, The 05. We welcome anyone to stop in and test out our unique list of signature hand-crafted drinks, a great selection of wine, craft beer, and our delicious food! To their point, the dishes are meant to be shared. Whether you get the Tuna Nachos or the Tempura Sweet Potatoes, you'll enjoy the flavors so much you won't be able to contain yourself from spreading the culinary love to others. More, you'll probably be empowered to introduce yourself to other tables with one of those dishes and say hey, I see you don't have this on your table, but you must try this; it's so freaking good!

Kinda what I am doing here, only in photos - and without you seated at a table.

Hey, seriously, the food here is legit. If you've ever heard of a mic drop before, this would be considered a fork-drop eatery. Like, drop your fork it's that good. Nothing else needed to say!

For example, their staple dish... Crispy Brussels Sprout Salad. This dish put them on the map. It's what their known for. And, after tasting it, I am glad to say I am one of the lucky ones now that knows why. The sweet potatoes with the buttermilk herb dressing and apple cider glaze paired with those crispy green goodies is like trick-or-treat for a vegetarian. It's vegetable candy. I loved it - and so did my mouth. And for the meat eaters, you can chicken (fried, too), shrimp or tuna.

Barone was busy in the kitchen the day we stopped in, but her creativity and presentation spoke volumes. From inside four walls comes out culinary masterpieces. This is why we do what we do. To showcase what's not seen - chef and food together.

With that, take a look at this episode of What's On The Menu by Very Local view our photos below, then plan a trip to The 05 and #gotoyournomnomplace! Be a #culinaryencourager and let these folks know they're awesome at what they do!
